Abstract: L'album ha ottenuto all'uscita un notevole successo commerciale, raggiungendo il 2º posto nella classifica di Billboard[10], dove è rimasto per 7 settimane dietro a The Wall dei Pink Floyd. È considerato tra i più significativi lavori di Tom Petty. Nel 2003, il disco si classificò alla posizione numero 313 su Rolling Stone nella lista dei 500 migliori album di tutti i tempi.[11] Il titolo è una citazione dell'ammiraglio statunitense della guerra di secessione David Farragut.

Abstract: Il ritorno del re. A guardare la copertina di "Kiwanuka", dove il cantautore londinese di origini ugandesi appare bardato come un novello Carlo V, viene da aprire la recensione con questa pomposa citazione tollkieniana. Lungi da noi conferire a Michael Kiwanuka cotanto titolo nobiliare, che nella storia della musica black ha predecessori non solo illustri, ma anche difficili da associare a una personalità più misurata di quelle dei vari Michael Jackson o Prince, volendo scendere di un grado nobiliare. Giocare con il titolo che chiude la "Trilogia dell'anello" viene però comodo introducendo un disco certamente segnante per l'universo black, specie dalle parti delle sue costellazioni più raffinate e rispettose del passato, certamente affollate, ma anche piuttosto caotiche e disorganizzate, bisognose di nuovi fari, di personalità guida. Il presentarsi così impellicciato di Kiwanuka, l'intitolare il disco con il suo solo cognome hanno il sentore quindi di una presa di coscienza, e di responsabilità, proprio come avviene ad Aragorn, il re rinnegato dei libri che accetta finalmente il suo fardello e va a riprendersi Gondor. Non è dunque un caso che "Kiwanuka" sia il disco più nero del cantautore, dove le chitarre Floyd-iane di "Love & Hate", quasi estinte, lasciano maggior posto al calore del vecchio soul d'annata. Meno evidenti e sfacciate sono le prese di posizioni politiche, che però fanno da sottotesto costante, profondendo un egualitarismo raggiante e positivo.

Abstract: Vicino alla villa di Jay Gatsby, un misterioso personaggio legato alla malavita, abita Nick Carraway, un giovane agente di cambio. Daisy, cugina di Nick, sposata al ricco Tom Buchanan, era stata, anni prima fidanzata di Jay Gatsby. Jay riesce a riconquistare Daisy e a diventarne l'amante, mentre Buchanan stringe una relazione con Myrtle Wilson, moglie del proprietario di un garage. Daisy uccide, con l'auto di Gatsby, Myrtle, ma Buchanan e Daisy stessa danno la responsabilità dell'incidente a Gatsby che aveva cercato di proteggere l'amante. Wilson uccide Gatsby e si toglie la vita. Intanto Daisy e Tom riprendono la loro banale e sfarzosa vita coniugale.

Christian Dior was born in Granville, a seaside town on the coast of Normandy, France, in 1904. While his family had hoped that he would become a diplomat, Dior preferred art. His preternatural talent resulted in him being hired by Robert Piquet in 1937, and he subsequently worked alongside Pierre Balmain and Lucien Lelong. Dior was an instant sensation after the Second World War. His designs, which asserted femininity, were a strong rebuke to the utilitarian, unisex clothing of wartime Europe, and came to symbolize the “New Look.” Since his untimely death in 1957, an exceptional series of creative directors have imprinted their own style upon the iconic brand.
