Richard Potter : America's first black celebrity / John A. Hodgson
Charlottesville ; London : University of Virginia Press, 2018
Abstract: Apart from a handful of exotic--and almost completely unreliable--tales surrounding his life, Richard Potter is almost unknown today. Two hundred years ago, however, he was the most popular entertainer in America--the first showman, in fact, to win truly nationwide fame. Working as a magician and ventriloquist, he personified for an entire generation what a popular performer was and made an invaluable contribution to establishing popular entertainment as a major part of American life. His story is all the more remarkable in that Richard Potter was also a black man.

Can you eat? / written by Joshue David Stein ; pictures by Julia Rothman
New York : Phaidon, 2019
Abstract: Can you eat... A pea? A pear? A bee? A bear? In this spin-off board book to the bestselling picture-book companion, food critic (and dad) Joshua David Stein asks the question, "Can you eat...?" followed by a lyrical list of illustrated items. From familiar items like apple pie and pineapple to the more nonsensical, like underpants and elephants, this read-aloud twist on a first book of food offers plenty of giggles, with simple yet sophisticated hand-drawings by Julia Rothman that provide authenticity and a balance of seriousness to the silliness at hand.
