Abstract: Timothy Shay Arthur's, A Lesson of Patience is a story that shows the life, the point of view and the character of a rich woman as opposed to that of a poor woman. When the rich woman's housemaid becomes ill, the woman is in utter confusion, unable to fend for herself and she complains to her husband until he calls an housemaid. The poor woman is a widow with four children who is very busy and happy with what he has. Talking to her the rich woman will understand the importance of appreciating what you have and living with peace of mind.
