Abstract: In Timothy Shay Arthur's Brandy As a Preventive New York is hit by cholera. Mr. Hobart is scared so he goes to the doctor to ask how to prevent the disease. The doctor tells him that the brandy is useful and that he himself drinks two glasses a day, so he convinces him and prescribes him brandy. Mr. Hobart comes home and asks his wife to drink it herself and to give it to their children but his wife totally disagrees. Mr. Hobart, instead, follows his doctor's advice...
