Abstract: Edward Bellamy's Two Days' Solitary Imprisonment opens with Joseph who is ill in bed. He reads the story of a man wrongly accused of murder, He is really impressed by it so that he identifies himself with him. When his sister tells him that a man was killed in their barn, he begins to behave oddly, and keeps repeating "it was not me". He is very agitated, pale and frightened.
